Daphne - Sold
Daphne, a nymph in Greek mythology, was pursued by the god Apollo, who was struck with intense desire for her after being hit by Cupid’s love arrow. Fleeing his advances, Daphne, prayed for escape. As Apollo closed in, she was transformed into a laurel tree, her body turning to bark and leaves.
In this painting, Daphne stands alone, caught in the fleeting moment of her metamorphosis into a laurel tree. Delicate branches twist from her outstretched arms, leaves unfurling as she embraces her eternal sanctuary.
Why did I chose to paint this story? Sometimes life gives us circumstances that require change and growth we might not be ready for. Sometimes we grieve a life or version of ourselves we had to outgrow without knowing what we seek is ahead. So, I chose to paint her, but with with a bit of hope and faith.
